“He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.” -Psalms 107:29
There’s a wreckage, there’s a fire
There’s a weakness in my love
There’s a hunger I can’t control
Lord I falter, and I fall down
And I hold on to the chains you broke
when you came and saved my soul
(saved my soul)
Hallelujah
We are free to struggle
We’re not struggling to be free
Your blood bought and makes us children
Children drop your chains and sing
So why Lord, do I still fail, do I wear thin
Why do I still give into temptation?
On my own, I am bankrupt
I don’t trust you, or take you at your word
That you’ve promised
Hallelujah
We are free to struggle
We’re not struggling to be free
Your blood bought and makes us children
Children drop your chains and sing
Hallelujah, Death is overcome, and we are breathing
Hallelujah, Our stone hearts become flesh that’s beating
Hallelujah, Chains have been undone and we are singing
Hallelujah, The fire has begun, oh can you feel it?
The title track from Tenth Avenue North’s newly-released album, “The Struggle”, is definitely a song that tells a message, something that people all over the world need.
This message gives so much hope, that in spite of our struggles, our failures and fears, we have been set free. It is not our condition that dictates what our standing before God is (whether we are failures or not), but the blood of Christ.
And that’s what we sing hallelujah for. Not to get God to love us more, but because we are His beloved children, we are loved, no matter what. Isn’t that awesome?
In a world living by sight (by their actions and choices…striving in this dog-eat-dog world and struggling to be better), it’s difficult. But I am glad for Christian songs like this, that share a message, to those who are so hopeless and struggling to believe in themselves and their capability to reach out to a God.
Because somehow, our view of God has been distorted. When in truth, He is by our side, He has promised to never leave us, despite of our struggles. As TAN says, “For we are not struggling to be free, we are free to struggle.”
